Unknown Soldiers Weapons Vault

Entering the Museum and moving past our working vault door allows guests to enter the Unknown Soldiers Weapons Vault. The National Museum of Military Vehicles’ vault showcases just under 250 firearms spanning from the American Revolution to modern day.

Highlights inside the weapons vault include:

The actual musket which PVT John Simpson used to fire the first shot at the Battle of Bunker’s Hill on June 17, 1775.

A wide variety of machine guns, from early designs like the M1909 Benet-Mercie to contemporary weapons such as the M249 SAW.

Portable anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons from the First World War to the modern era.

Military and civilian firearms manufactured by the Winchester company spanning the years 1866-1964.

And an assortment of uniquely distinctive firearms including an MP5 hidden inside of a briefcase, a U.S. Navy Hand Firing Mechanism, Mk 2, and a Liberator Pistol with original box, among others.
